Drum Lesson - Swapping Between 1/4 and 8th Note Grooves

Updated: Aug 29

Okay, you can play your 1/4 note grooves. EASY!

And your 8th note groove is sounding good at 80 BPM and you could stick with me on the video? Awesome - Click Here to Test Yourself if you haven't yet:

So, here's the next challenge, and I warn you swapping between 1/4 and 8th note grooves is NOT as easy as you think!

We start off with a 1/4 note groove played for 2 bars, then we count for 4 beats as a gap before we then play 2 bars of 8th note groove.

Then it's 4 bars of each, still with a gap, before finishing with 4 bars of each but with no gaps.

The reason for the gaps? Simply to allow you a little thinking time and to start counting to make sure you get the timing right.

Why remove them? Because this makes it harder and more true to life.
